Berry keeps your voice on your device.

Last updated 3 November 2026. This page covers the Berry apps for Windows and Android and this website.

What the apps do with your voice

Berry records from your microphone only while you ask it to (a key press, the bubble, or after it hears “Hey Berry”). The audio is turned into text on your device and is not saved or sent anywhere. Listening for “Hey Berry” also happens entirely on your device.

What stays on your device

  • Your settings, your word list and your reminders.
  • Your history: the text of what you dictated or asked, kept for the number of days you choose (7 by default), after which only daily word counts remain. You can delete saved phrases at any time from Berry’s history screen.

When Berry uses the internet

  • Model downloads: once, after installing, Berry downloads its models from their publishers (GitHub, Hugging Face). Those servers see a normal download request.
  • Update check: once a day Berry fetches version.json from this website to see whether a newer version exists. Nothing about you or your use is sent. Turn it off in Settings.
  • Online chat (optional, off by default): if you add your own Groq API key and switch chat online, the text of your chat questions (not audio) is sent to Groq to answer them, under Groq’s own privacy policy.

Berry has no accounts, analytics, advertising or crash reporting.

This website

The site is hosted on Vercel and the downloads on GitLab, which keep standard server logs (such as IP address and browser) as part of serving pages and files.

To see how many people visit and which pages they read, the site uses Vercel Web Analytics. It counts page views, the referring site, country and device type, without cookies and without identifying you; visits can’t be linked across days or sites. The site sets no cookies. The Berry apps themselves contain no analytics at all.
